Musical tour in Taiwan, choir of honor on festival in South Korea
The journey started in Taiwan as a cultural journey with concerts and a workshop with local choirs from Taipei and Tainan. The choir held two large concerts in two of the finest concert halls of Taiwan, and had the pleasure of singing for an audience of around 1700 people in total. The youth also had the opportunity to live with host families during their stay in Tainan, to better get to know Taiwanese daily life. This was an exciting journey for the youth, and they got to acquaint other teenagers across national borders and cultural differences.
After a week in Taiwan, the journey carried on to Seoul in South Korea for the remaining week. The choir was invited as a choir of honor to the “World Vision Korea Children’s Choir Festival”, together with four other choirs from Hungary, the Philippines, Indonesia and the United States of America. Defrost got to perform together with the other choirs on different locations around Seoul, and also in grand concert halls.
The journey started July 28th 2016, and the choir landed back in Norway after 15 days, August 12th 2016. The last days of the journey were filled with emotions for many of the youth, since many of them would end their journey with Defrost for now. Some of them had to quit due to studies and school, while others had work waiting for them. The conductor, Thomas Caplin, gently told the youth prior to the closing concert: “Once a Defroster – always a Defroster!”
